Match Report

Trim Celtic scorer: James Foley
Trim Celtic Green commenced their run in the SFAI Cup with a hard fought win over Rock Celtic from Co. Louth. Rock Celtic came into this game with a reputation for excellence and this was evident with them playing some neat passing and pressing football which took the Trim team a period to adjust to. The pace of the game was lively and Sam Kennedy in midfield for Trim led by example with tenacious play which was the tempo that Trim needed to maintain in order to repel a very good opposition. Celtic spent the first 10 minutes on the back foot and Rock Celtic unlucky to have a goal disallowed for offside. This further hurt Rock Celtic when some excellent play in midfield by James Foley Tadgh Carty led to a freekick for Trim just outside the opponents box. Captain James Foley stepped up and as the initial freekick rebounded off the wall he didn't waste the 2nd opportunity and he unleashed a pile driver which went through the entire Rock Celtic defence and bulged the back of the net. Perhaps against the run of play but this was a lead that Trim Celtic were determined not to relinquish. To their credit Rock Celtic fought back and some outstanding goalkeeping including a finger tip save from Diarmuid Doyle protected Trim's lead. Victor Barbu launched himself at the ball to clear off the line also as more and more pressure was soaked up. Half-time came and was an opportunity for the squad to re-group.
For the 2nd half Ronan McGinley came on for Cian Garrehy in defence and Rocco Martinis replaced the ever lively Even Collins. As Rock Celtic pushed hard for an equaliser they were more vulnerable at the back. Shane Bell continued his recent fine form with some half chances and his running stretched Rock Celtic at times. Finn Maher was introduced for Sam Kennedy and Finn again caused Rock Celtic to be stretched at the back with his runs however Rock pushed hard for the equaliser and another goal line clearance from Ronan McGinley saved Trim once more. Again, some find goalkeeping from Goalkeeper Diarmuid Doyle and with the addition of Noah Lacey O'Dea and Cormac Savage coming on this offered fresh pair of legs and both substitutes were solid which allowed Trim Celtic to close the game out and record a significant win against quality opposition.
Trim Celtic Green squad: Diarmuid Doyle, Victor Garbu, Nicolas Fragoyiannis, Cian Garrehy, Evan Collins, Sam Kennedy, James Foley, Tadgh Carty, Shane Bell, Ronan McGinley, Padraig Mallon, Rocco Martinis, Ben Ryan, Finn Maher, Cormac Savage, Noah Lacey O'Dea
