Match Report

Trim Celtic slipped to defeat at the hands of an excellent Parkvilla side who made the most of an extraordinary purple patch midway through the second half to record a comfortable victory. The match started brightly for the Trim side who could have taken the lead through Andrew Gibney after ten minutes but the Parkvilla 'keeper was equal to the challenge and he quickly palmed out the goal bound shot. Shortly after that Celtic fell behind when Parkvilla crashed the ball against the bar and followed up with a well struck shot which was excellently saved by Kevin Dalton only for the ball to trickle over the line following a goal mouth scramble. Celtic, however, fought back and were level within five minutes when Andreas Lopez chased down a back pass to dispossess the 'keeper and slot the ball into the empty net. That was about as good as it got for Celtic as Parkvilla scored twice more without reply to finish the half on top. Shortly after the break Celtic seemed to switch off for ten minutes during which Parkvilla extended their lead and put what was ultimately an unfair gloss on the scoreline. Despite losing James Murray and Mark Cunningham to injury Celtic re-grouped and managed to stem flow of Parkvilla attacks and prevent them from adding to the scoreline. Celtic keeper Kevin Dalton had another solid game despite the defeat. Another tough assignment follows as Celtic travel to Dunboyne on Sunday to face the NDSL side in the SFAI cup first round hoping for a better performance. Best for Celtic were Mark Cunningham, James Murray and Kevin Dalton. Trim Celtic: Kevin Dalton, Adam Wilson, Oran Kirby, Mark Cunningham, Eoin Gaffney, James Murray, Andreas Lopez, Evan deCourcey Tobin, Liam Reilly, Andrew Gibney, Conor McGinley Subs: Eoghan Lenehan (for Gibney), Fionn McEvoy (for McGinley), Daniel Coleman (for deCourcey Tobin), Luke Doyle (for Murray), Kevin McGowan (for Reilly)
