Trim Celtic produced a solid performance to dispatch Division 1 side Navan Town in the final Kilmessan Shield group game. Colm O'Reilly gave Celtic a halftime lead on 40 minutes with a deft chip over the keeper from Brian Faulkner's through ball. James Goggins rattled the woodwork after a mazy run shortly afterwards but it remained 1-0 at the break. Seven minutes into the second half Faulkner capitalised on a defensive mix up to nip in and finish from a tight angle before Colm Carney completed the scoring on 60 minutes finishing well from five years for his first goal for the club. Celtic had keeper Ian Telford to thank for their clean sheet as he saved a 74th minute penalty kick. Substitute Aaron Ryan had a late goal chalked off for offside. The league campaign will begin on Sunday as the Hoops travel to take on Bellurgan Utd.
