Match Report

Trim Celtic produced another fantastic team performances to take their second trophy of the season, this time it was the NECSL Challenge Cup to add to their league title. On a wet and windy afternoon in the MDL Grounds Trim Celtic took on local rivals Parkvillla for the 5th time this season having played them twice in the league once in the shield and also early on in the season in the FAI U17 cup. Celtic made it 4 wins from 5 against the Navan side with Peter Farrell getting the all important winner, A long range effort found the top corner of the net from 35yds out, in the 6th minute of extra time minute of the match which was tied at 0-0 after the 90. The Trim side were denied for most of the game by the inspired Parkvilla goalkeeper who made a string of fantastic saves to keep the game scoreless. The first effort came from a Scott O'Leary free kick on 20 mins that was tipped around the post for a corner. 0-0 at half time and the story of the rest of the game was mainly the Parkvilla keeper verses Trim Celtic's attack with Man of the Match Nathan Costello, Aran Condren and Jack Murray all being denied by some great saves. Parkvilla created few goalscoring chances thanks to captain Gerard Dwane and Scott O'Leary at centre back while Mark Foy, Jack Murray and Jordan Bennett won the midfield battle. Celtic also hit the woodwork twice in normal time but it was Farrells strike that lead to the celebrations after the final whistle. A great day all round for this young side a league and cup double to take back to Trim, caps off a great season.
