Match Report

In a match that was more crucial to the visitors than the home side, Kells Blackwater ran out comfortable winners in the end. The Kells side started brightly and had the majority of the play in the early exchanges. It was obvious that they were up for the match and determined to ensure they claimed the top position in the group. They went close with a free in the 14th minute but took the lead in the 17th minute when they reacted quickest to the rebound following a fine save by James Bourke. The Gunners had an opportunity to level the match 3 minutes later when Ciaran Caulfield was brought down in the box. Ciaran stepped up to take the resultant penalty but the Kells keeper made a fine save diving to his right. The Gunners now enjoyed a good spell and were unlucky in the 28th minute when Aaron McCormack was narrowly wide from a Ciaran Caulfield cross. However they were made to pay a minute later when Kells doubled their lead. The Gunners never really recovered from losing this 2nd goal and despite some fine runs by Ciaran Caulfield in the 2nd half the game seemed to be heading to an inevitable conclusion, but Kells were not done and scored two late goals in the last few minutes. Best for the Gunners were Blake and Wesley Gibbons and Jack Fagan.
