This afternoon at Tully Park the Club Reserves enjoyed their last outing of the season at home to Ardee Celtic in a league game that was of no real significance to either side. Celtic, who were declared champions last Monday night following results elsewhere, won the game 5-1 thanks to goals by Michael Tyndall (penalty), Matthew Scanlon, Danny Quinn, Gordon Flood & Alan McCormack.

With one game still to play the Club’s Reserve Team this evening became the 2007/8 MDL Premier Reserve Division champions when the news came through that Glenmuir had failed to defeat Duleek at the Tollstone in their last game of the season. What a climax to the season this is for Luke Dempsey’s team, trailing so far behind the pace setters for so long, to put in a finishing burst over the last six weeks to secure the title!

With one game remaining the MDL Premier Reserve league table looks like this…

With Duleek playing Glenmuir this evening, a draw or a win for Duleek will give Celtic the title. A win for Glenmuir will mean that it’ll go right down to the final game of the season, when Celtic will take on Ardee at Tully Park on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

The Club’s Reserves under the management of Luke Dempsey turned in one of the ir best performances of the season this afternoon at Tully Park when they soundly defeated visitors & title rivals Rock Celtic hitting four goals without reply.
Michael Tyndall, Matthew Scanlon, Danny Quinn & Richie Fitzsimons all hit the net in an impressive outing. The result means that Celtic are now in sight of the Premier Reserve title, something that was not generally considerd possible after they lost their first three games of the season & indeed up a few weeks ago.
Mark Scanlon, Gavin Meehan & Andy Reilly also caught the eye.

The dream of winning the MDL Premier Reserve title is still alive for the Club tonight after Luke Dempsey’s team scored a 2-0 victory over Marsh Celtic in Drogheda this evening to secure three more vital league points. In a tough encounter Celtic had to draw on all of their ‘reserves’ to win the game with two goals in the last twenty minutes. Michael Tyndall was the hit-man for both goals. Centre back Andy Reilly & Richie Fitzsimons both impressed this evening as did Gavin Meehan in midfield.
As a result of this win, the league title could go to any one of three teams. Celtic (37 points) have yet to play Rock Celtic at home & Ardee Celtcic away. Two wins & the title come home to Tully Park! Rock Celtic (37 points) need to win their last game against Trim but that would not guarantee the tile. Glenmuir (38 points) have one game to play away to Duleek.
The drama will all unfold in the next ten days!

The Club Reserves travelled to Ardee to play Square Utd. last night & secured another three points in their quest for the MDL Premier Reserve Division title. They now have four games to play & victory in them all whilst a ‘big ask’, would see them crowned champions. Mattie Scanlon & Richie Fitzsimons were on target in a 2-0 win. Fitsimons’ goal was his first of the season. The dream loves on.
Several of the Reserve squad also turned out for the Seniors this evening at Tully Park against visitors Torro Utd. in the MDL Premier Division & Scanlon was agains on target in an entertaing 3-3 draw. Celtic’s other goals were scored by Keith Jones & Noel Payne (penalty).

The Club Reserves lost for the first time since 2005 in the MDL Reserve Cup when they lost 3-4 to visitors Navan Town last Saturday at Tully Park. In a game that they might have comfortably won, they lost out by the odd goal in seven. Top scorer Michael Tyndall converted early in the first half from an Anthony Craig assist but the visitors then struck twice to lead at the break. In the second half Mark Scanlon set up Craig for an equaliser & then Tyndall conveted a penalty after Paul Munnelly was fouled. However the visitors struck twice to win the game thus ending the Club’s impressive record in the Reserve cup going back more then three years. Matty Scanlon gave a fine peformance throughout.
The only comfort on the day for the Reserves was the news that Glenmuir had been beaten in the Premier Reserve League thus restoring Celtic’s challenge. If they win all five games remaining they will be crowned champions. A big ask but maybe…..
