Trim Celtic made it maximum points from 2 games today in Tully Park. A result that was never in doubt even after Clones Town cancelled out Mick Tyndall’s well taken opener after 10 mins. Mark McCormack put Trim 2-1 up with a brilliant left footed free kick which flew into the top corner. Paul Campbell added Trims 3rd with right footed curler from outside the box. The second have was all one way traffic. Mark McCormack added his 2nd this time with his right foot. The next 30 mins all belonged to Derek Donohoe who matched his achievement last year when he scored a hat trick in his first game of the season. The first was a superb lob over the keeper, the second was an unstoppable shot inside the box and the third was a clever finish in a packed penalty area. Scott McGowan added Trims eight when he was set up by Donohoe and he finished well from a tight angle.

Trim Celtic let the chance to go top of the table slip in Tully Park. In an excellent game both sides served up some wonderful football but the result was heartbreaking for Trim. Having received the terrible news that Aaron Newman had suffered a broken leg on Friday night Trim received another setback when team captain Keith Jones was forced to pull with injury. The game started at a frantic pace and it was Trim who looked the more likely to get the first goal. Indeed if it was not for some heroic saves from the Duleek keeper Trim could easily have led the match at the break by 3 goals but just before half time, on a rare attack Duleek open the scoring when a long ball forward found there centre forward who finished well to give Duleek the lead. Trim came out in the second half and showed great character to get back on level terms when Derek Donohoe’s first time shoot from 20 yards flew into the net. From then on in Trim tried to get the winner but again the Duleek keeper came to the rescue. But with time just up a long ball out of defense by Duleek found them on a 4 v 2 situation and they scored the winner. While the result does not totally rule out Trim chances of taking the Premier honors this year it does mean that we will have to rely on other results to go our way. Everybody involved in Trim Celtic would like to send our best wishes to Aaron Newman on a speedy recovery.

Trim Celtic picked up all 3 points in this match on a beautiful evening in Tully Park. The win which was watched by a huge crowd keeps Trim in the hunt for Premier League honors. In fairness Square started very brightly and had the majority of possession while never really threatening to score. The shape of the game changed when on the 20 min mark Derek Donohoe was hacked down just on the edge of the box as he was bearing down on goal. The Square defender was sent off and this changed the shape of the game. Paul Munnelly caused plenty of problems down the right with some great runs. Just before half time David Conway turned well inside the box to put Trim one up. Trim started the second half brightly but with Squares defence playing strong hard football chances were hard to come by. Trim got a let off when square hit the cross-bar. Diarmuid Higgins was introduced with 20 mins remaining and he had an immediate impact turning well inside the box to finish off a good move involving Paul Gilsenan and Derek Donohoe. Paul Cambell was outstanding in the middle for Trim and the defence of Conway, Gilsenan, Fitzsimons and Halton were rock solid. With 10 mins remaining David Conway latched onto a corner to finish the game off.
Next up Duleek on Sunday at 11.15 in Tully Park
