Trim Celtic 8 Clones Town 2

Trim Celtic made it maximum points from 2 games today in Tully Park. A result that was never in doubt even after Clones Town cancelled out Mick Tyndall’s well taken opener after 10 mins. Mark McCormack put Trim 2-1 up with a brilliant left footed free kick which flew into the top corner. Paul Campbell added Trims 3rd with right footed curler from outside the box. The second have was all one way traffic. Mark McCormack added his 2nd this time with his right foot. The next 30 mins all belonged to Derek Donohoe who matched his achievement last year when he scored a hat trick in his first game of the season. The first was a superb lob over the keeper, the second was an unstoppable shot inside the box and the third was a clever finish in a packed penalty area. Scott McGowan added Trims eight when he was set up by Donohoe and he finished well from a tight angle.

U11 Premier Shield Final

NECSL U11 Premier Shield

Trim Celtic 2

Parkvilla 1

Trim Celtic’s win in the U11 Premier Shield Final against their close rivals Parkvilla was arguably the game of the season. The fantastic Spirit from both sets of players and the many supporter’s was a credit to both club’s. Parkvilla took an early lead but it was Trim Celtic who kept focused and where rewarded with an equaliser. Fintan Delvin confidently stepped forward to take a free kick 25 yards out and duly obliged with stunning accuracy. Trim Defenders Karl Corcoran, Ruairi Shortt, Cormac Boggan and Rudolphas Nemikas were solid throughout and kept out the usual threat of Parkvilla’s attack force. Trim Celtic continued to press and when Keane Geraghty took on the Parkvilla defence and coolly slotted home the victory was finally secured. A late penalty miss didn’t dampen Trim Celtic’s occasion and it was left to Captain Conor Higgins to lift the Shield to start the celebrations

Schoolboy Results 6th/7th Feb 2010

A real mixed weekend for our Schoolboys teams…

We had three games in Tully Pk this Saturday with the U13 D2 team playing first and despite a long lay off came out on top against Parkvilla on a scoreline of 2-1…

Next up where the U15 D2′s who were depleted with illness and a school trip, it was a bad time to come up against a strong Delvin side. The match finished 4-1 to Delvin

The final game on Saturday pitted Ron Metcalfe’s U15′S  against St Malachy’s of the DDSL Premier League in the last 36 of the Sfai Cup. In a incident packed game St Malachy’s keeper dislocated his shoulder soon after the kick off, shortly after this Trim took the lead. Trim were leading 2-1 with seconds to go in the game when St Malachy’s equalised and brought the game into extra time which they they took full advantage of and finished 4-2…St Malachy’s keeper is doing ok and is home after getting his shoulder fixed up in Navan Hospital

The U14 D1 team kept up their recent run of good form with a 3-0 win over Athboy Celtic in the MDL

Martin Davidson’s U14 team travelled to Torro with a heavily depleted team in a match which finished 7-2 to Torro

The U12 D3′s where involved in the HSE Cup against Delvin Celtic who where too strong, the result was 6-4 to Delvin

Torro 0 Trim Celtic 2

This game was originally fixed for Torro’s ground on Sunday morning 11.15 ko. Their pitch was called off at 9.45 and the game switched to Tully Park for 11.30ko. With both sides striped and ready to start the referee said the pitch was unplayable due to frozen sections on it. The match was then re-fixed for 2.30 in the MDL when eventually this cup game got underway. With Trim missing their Captain Keith Jones and top scorer Derek Donoghue this was always going to be a tough fixture but with strength in dept Trim came through 2-0 winners. Trim started brightly and after 15 mins a super cross by Mark McCormack was met by the head of Conway and the ball flew into the top corner of the net. The first half was scrappy and Trim were lucky to go in at the break 1-0 up. The second half saw Trim showing the good form they have produced this season. Corrigan and Campbell did well in the middle with Newman and McCormack supporting on the wings. Trims defense was so solid that Barry O’Callaghan in the Trim goal enjoyed what must be the quietest half he has ever had as a goalkeeper. With 20 mins remaining a great run by Harte down the left found Paul Gillsenan. His effort was well saved by the Torro keeper but the ball fell to Newman who made no mistake to finish from a tight angle. The biggest cheer of the day was reserved for Dominic Martin who came on as a substitute to make his 30th year appearance in the Challenge Cup surely something that no other player will achieve. Trim Celtic will now play Glenmuir next Sunday in Tully Park in the second round.

Team: Barry O’Callaghan, Richie Fitzsimons, Mark Gillsenan, Cyril Halton, , Colm Harte, Michael Corrigan, Paul Campbell, Aaron Newman, Keith Peppard, David Conway Mark McCormack

Subs:  Paul Gillsenan for Keith Peppard, Damien McGhee for Aaron Newman, Dominic Martin for David Conway

This was display that was full of commitment and a lot of skill from all the team…They now face Devon Salthill (Galway) in a home fixture which is scheduled for next weekend

Ron Metcalfe’s U15′s were up next in Tully Pk and turned in an equally impressive display against highly fancied Castleknock from the DDSL.
