Ladies News

Tomorrow night’s scheduled Ladies’ game at home to Shelbourne F.C. has been postponed because of the bad weather.

On the good news front for the Ladies, it has been announced that the Meath & District League has agreed to launch a Ladies Division in the MDL next April. This follows recent negotiations by the LFAI North East Development Officer Eoin Killackey. It is a very welcome development for the Club & indeed for all local clubs interested in further developing the game for ladies & girls. A winter event is also planned to bridge the gap between the end of the current summer season & the start of the new MDL league in April.

It is also hoped that the NECSL will announce shortly its intention to stage Sevens football for U9 & U11 girls at the MDL Grounds this coming season & in addition eleven-a-side football at U13 & U16 maybe.

The Club is fully committed to these initiatives & looks forward to seeing the proposed structures put into place.

Ladies out of DWSL Intermediate Cup

A much weakened Club Ladies team travelled to Dublin to take on Division 3 South side Lucan Utd. in the second round of the DWSL Intermediate Cup recently but came away on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline despite much effort from the entire team. They travelled with more than half the regular starters unavailable through injury, holiday, work commitments & were unable to make an impression on the host team.

They were not helped by some very peculliar decisions by the referee throughout the game which served to make their task much harder.

Sabrina Gibney, Niamh Holmes & Aoife Gorman all impressed. Karen Ball equalised for Celtic in the first period but they went in trailing 1-2 at the break. Lucan added three more goals in the second half & Melissa Boland scored a late consolation for Celtic.

From start to finish this was a very entertaining game with fine performances right across the pitch from every player. Manager Karen Halpenny expressed herself very satisfied after the game despite dropping three valuable points in the chase for league honours.
