This week’s 50th Anniversary post doesn’t relate to a match or a team but to one of our many club trophies and given that the man it is named after is going to be leading the Trim Celtic party around the town at the St. Patrick’s Day parade its a perfect time to write about the Ginnerty Cup.
In 1967 the first meeting of the present Trim Celtic club was held in Trim at which a decision was taken to enter a team in the Leinster Junior League and one of the founder members on that night was Christy Ginnerty who went on to drive the ambitions of Trim Celtic for many years.
Christy served the Club in many position over the years on Committee, as Chairman, and on the sidelines from where he managed the Club to some of its greatest achievements in the 1970s and 1980’s. Christy will be regaling tales of this era at our forthcoming 50th Anniversary event on the 30th April in the Trim Castle Hotel. We would like to see as many players from this era attend as possible so please get in touch to book a ticket, they cost €25 and a meal & entertainment are included.
Having seen many quality players come through the ranks at Tully Park Christy thought it only right that the performances of the young members of the squad be recognised.
In 2013 a new Cup bearing the Ginnerty name was introduced to be presented to the Senior Men’s Young Player of the Year, the winners so far are as follows:
