In our second look through the archives we visit June 1991.
Mattie Proctor was the manager of the Club’s U12 team during the 1990/91 season and the U12 NECSL League campaign came to a head on 22nd June 1991 at Agher when his team faced Shambo in a play off for the title, before a good crown of supporters. Trim had twice beaten Shambo in the League during the season but Shambo had defeated Celtic in the Shield at the semi-final stage. Celtic had lost out to Oriel Celtic from Monaghan in the Cup final and this was their last chance to land a prize.
‘This was a very good win for Trim’ said Matt Proctor in his match report. ‘Simon Smith scored the first goal in the first half as Celtic got on top in a lively encounter. Gary Rispin hit the second after the break.’
According to the manager the best performers on the day were Rispin, Ronan Fitzsimons & Thomas Ludlow but he selected Simon Smith as his ‘man of the match’. After the game NECSL official Conall Collier presented the trophy to John Redmond, captain of the Trim team.
Team: 1. Brian Carley, 2. Raymond Murray, 3. John Redmond, 4. Colin Rayfus, 5. Ronan Fitzsimons, 6. Patrick Hegarty, 7. Simon Smith, 8. Gary Rispin, 9. Darren O’Connor, 10. Tom Ludlow, 11. Aidan Potter. Subs (none used): 12. Eddie Reilly, 13. Paul Daly, 14. Peter Clancy, 16. David Conway.
