Trim Celtic U13 premier took on their counterparts from their parents’ team on a windy Thursday evening before Christmas. Having been beaten on the last four occasions the parents’ team were not going to lie down easily and recalls for Trim hurling legend Declan Murray and striker Ronan Gaffney signified their intent. A bright start by the kids had thimage image image image image imagee parents pushed back and they were unlucky not to be in front early on with good chances for Liam Reilly and James Murray going a begging along with some good goalkeeping by Aidan McGinley. However Aidan’s goal didn’t stay intact for long and who should open the scoring only his son Conor
who prodded the ball home after a fairly hefty challenge. Further goals by James Murray and Evan de Courcy Tobin gave the kids a handy 4-1 lead at half time.
The second half started brightly for the parents and a David Doyle goal was followed by a nice finish by Declan Murray to reduce the arrears to a single goal. Further goals however by Murray Jnr again and Eoin Gaffney made it 6-3. With two minutes to go the kids were looking well placed with an 8-5 lead thanks to further goals from Andrew Gibney and Liam Reilly but the parents made them sweat with two late finishes from Ronan Gaffney and the slightly competitive John McEvoy making the score 8-7. There were great scenes at the final whistle as captain James Murray was presented with the Cup by Joss from Aura Leisure Centre who generously donated the pitch on the night. Following the donation of the training fees and a collection on the night €240 was raised for the local Meals on Wheels who were delighted with the contriebution at this time of the year. Many thanks to all the kids and parents, both playing and spectating for making this a great night for all concerned.
