Trim Celtic girls travelled to Clancy Park on Sunday to play Quay Celtic in the MGL Secondary Cup. As usual, there was plenty of travelling support along with a full squad.

Trim began at breakneck pace with Karen Larkin dazzling down the right hand side while Ashling O’ Flynn was to do the same later on down the left wing. Trim took the lead in under 5 minutes following a corner from Sophie Watters that was steered home by Emma Chamberlain. While Trim continued to dominate with most of the first half being played in the Quay half, they simply could not find the net due to a combination of bad luck and some good Quay defending. Quay then equalised later in the first half which certainly upped the excitement levels on the touchline, despite the cold and wet conditions.

Half time 1-1

The 2nd half began like the first half with Trim dominating. Again, in under 5 minutes, another Sophie corner led to an excellent strike from Sophie herself which was caught behind the line by the Quay keeper and gave Trim the lead again. While Trim largely dominated the rest of the match, there were some nervous moments with such a slender lead which required some cool defending from Lauren Collier and Karley Leavy.

Full time Quay Celtic 1 – 2 Trim Celtic

Well done to both teams for making this a fine and exciting Cup encounter.

Trim will play Ratoath Harps in the next round.
