This was a hard fought game on a cold Sunday morning with plenty of skill and determination shown by the Trim girls.
Trim began well with some notable neat passing movements involving Sophie Watters, Karen Larkin and Emma Chamberlain. While Sophie was dominating in midfield, the back four of Karley Leavy, Katie Emmett, Cliodhna Moore and Amy Troy, along with sweeper Roisin Milner, looked very comfortable. Aisling Flynn was busy up and down the right hand side both attacking and defending. Up front, lone striker Dani O’Sullivan worked tirelessly and went agonisingly close twice after being put through following great runs by Karen and Emma. As Peamount came more into the game, Karley and Katie made some heroic last ditch tackles. Keeper Amanda McQuillan needed to make one great save in the first half (and she did!) to deny Peamount. Later on in the first half, following great pressure from the Trim girls, Peamount nearly scored an own goal as their defence scrambled the ball over the cross bar.
Half time 0 – 0
Peamount upped the pace in the second half while Trim had a couple of injuries. Amanda made three stunning saves in as many minutes with Katie also making a great goal line clearance. The pressure finally told with Trim conceding goals in the 51st and 62nd minutes. As legs began to tire, Coach Leavy rang the changes. Trim competed right to the end with subs Zara Sheridan, Dervla Fahey, Ciara Hanson, Leanne Coffey, Caoimhe McKenna and Niamh Moore all making excellent contributions. Caoimhe O’ Hare’s day will come soon too. Trim almost scored a consolation near the end when a free kick from Sophie was narrowly wide.
Final score Peamount United 2 – Trim Celtic 0
