Trim Celtic made it into the last 64 of the biggest junior cup competition in Ireland with an outstanding performance against Premier A Dublin side Baldoyle Utd. In fact the score line of 3-2 slightly flatters the Dublin side managed by Vinny Arkins. Trim opened the scoring with a Mark McCormack half volley from just in side the box after 25mins. Trim were dominant all over the pitch and had Baldoyle on the back foot for the entire first half. However Baldoyle were given a lifeline just before the break when a wicked deflection from the only shoot on goal by Baldoyle in the first half left the teams level at half time. Baldoyle started the second half better but were unable to put any passes together as the trim men snapped at everything. Colm Harte and Mark McCormack were a constant threat for Trim and it was again Mark McCormack who got Trims second when he raced onto a through ball from David Conway and struck an unbelievable left footer into the bottom corner of the net. Trim sensed victory and went all out for a 3rd. Paul Campbell was outstanding in the middle of the park and his through ball to Paul Gilsenan was finished superbly to give Trim a 3-1 lead with 12 mins remaining. Scott McGowan and Jason Hand came of the bench for Trim and the fresh legs started to cause more problems for Baldoyle. With the game in the 4th min of injury time Baldoyle were awarded a penalty which was converted. Then in the 6th min of injury time Trim Keeper Barry O’Callaghan who had been a spectator for the entire game pulled of an unbelievable point blank save to deny Baldoyle what would have been a shock equalizer. After 2 more minutes the referee finally blew for full time to the delight of Trim Celtic and the many supporters who had turned up. This was an outstanding display from the entire Trim Celtic squad. Next up Clonmel Town away next Sunday for a place in the last 32.
