Trim Celtic made an early exit from the O’Rielly Cup on Saturday to Kells Blackwater. Celtic played some of their best football of the season in the opening half hour, but failed to convert their dominance on to the score sheet. Chances came and went and as the half closed in, Kells/Blackwater threatened twice and could have easily went in ahead but for some poor finishing themselves.
Celtic failed to show up for the second half and bad defending saw them fall behind early in the second half. Kells/Blackwater were the more determined of the two sides and quickly followed up with two more to kill the tie before the hour by taking full advantage of some dreadful defending. A goal ten minutes from time from Dimmy Higgins provided a small spark but as Celtic searched for a way back into the game they were hit with a fourth on the stroke of full time.
Best for Celtic – Snowy Jones, David Campbell. Seamus Harte.
Tony McDonnell, Nigel Kennedy, Fergus Fagan, John Kelly, David Campbell, Domo Fagan, Robbie Boyle, Stehen Jones, Seamus Harte, Ronan Hayes, Ross Campbell.
(James Hyland for Nigel Kennedy, Kenny Patterson for Robbie Boyle, Dimmy Higgins for Domo Fagan)
