With over 5 first team regulars out of action for this league game Trim Celtic still had the ability to come away from Ardee with maximum points. The game was scoreless at half time only because of 2 excellent saves from the Square keeper who denied Mark McCormack and Damo McGhee. Scott McGowan also hit the crossbar.

The second half was totally dominated by Trim Celtic and apart from some outstanding play from Trims central defensive partnership the hero’s of the day were Scott McGowan and Damo McGhee who worked tirelessly for 90mins. Trims first was a great move involving Paul Munnelly who fed Scott McGowan and his sharp turn and cool finish gave Trim a deserved lead. Scott McGowan then found Damo McGhee with a beautiful 20 yard pass and McGhee again finished well to put Trim 2 up. Square did pull a goal back in injury time when a long ball was played into the Trim penalty area and Barry O’Callaghan’s good punch came back off the head of a square player for a freakish goal.

Trim go into FAI Junior Cup action next Sunday and will welcome Tallagh Town to Tully Park in what should be an exciting cup game.
