The Sevens club season was kicked off on last Saturday. This season we have 14 teams registered for the NECSL league, with a total of 159 players. The four under tens (Falcons, Knights, Pumas, and Rovers) are now playing nine-a-side games on grass. The four under nines (Beavers, Eagles, Gladiators, and Gunners) all saw action at the MDL. At under eight level, there were a total of six teams (Bears, Crusaders, Dinos, Ravens, Swifts, and Tigers) four of which were new squads made up from the fun club and new members.
For the first time in the clubs history, the Sevens have launched an “all girls” soccer initiative. The girls at under nine, eleven and thirteen, have been in training hard during the summer months. The under nine team play in the NECSL league, and they saw action in the MDL last Saturday for the first time. The under elevens and thirteens will play in the Drogheda league and they are scheduled to kick off on 11th October. Training for this group continues every Thursday at 7pm in Tully Park.
The fun club has also opened its doors to our under age players (five, six, and seven year olds). There were over thirty players involved in the action at the Boyne Community School hall last Friday. We also have some new faces managing this section of the club, as Tom Fitzgerald and John Gibbons, have moved on to manage the all new under eights Tigers.
