The Club Seniors kicked-off their Tailteann Cup campaign on Saturday last with a 2-2 draw against LSL side Ratoath Harps. Celtic took a 2-0 lead after 30 mins. The first goal game came from a well worked set-piece which saw Ross Campbell square for Aaron Newman to tap-in his first Senior goal. Within five mins Celtic were two up when Paul Campbell’s header rebounded off the post & Gavin Meehan was on hand to follow-up. Ratoath scored a crucial goal before the break & dominated most off the second half & scored a deserved equaliser on the hour mark. Parkvilla & Ardee Celtic had earlier drawn 1-1.
Celtic’s 2nd game was played on the Bank Holiday Monday & with a number of first team regulars unavailable it was an unfamiliar looking line-up. Parkvilla, also from the LSL, had the best of the early chances but it wasn’t until the half hour mark that they found the breakthrough & the score was 1-0 at the break. The second half was a much more even affair & Celtic played some impressive football but failed to create many clear cut chances. On the stroke of full-time as Celtic pushed for an equaliser they were caught on the counter attack & Parkvilla killed off the game 2-0. Ratoath Harps had earlier beaten Ardee Celtic comprehensively by 5 goals to nil.
The two games to date in the tournament have given new manager Tony O’Sullivan plenty to think about with the big kick off in the MDL just two weeks away.
Celtic must be Ardee Celtic tomorrow night (Wednesday) to have any chance of qualifying & at the same time hope that LSL rivals Ratoath Harps & Parkvilla do not draw. Kick off is 7.30pm at the MDL.
