The youngsters of Trim Celtic turned out in numbers today at the Vintage & Veteran Car Rally in the Porchies Field, to take part in the Club’s annual Ollie O’Brien Tournament to commemorate the late Ollie O’Brien who passed away three years ago.
Ollie was a former Committee Member of the Club who also enjoyed a successful spell as a player of some distinction with the Club’s 1st team. He served for a period as manager of the 2nd team & found time also to train some of the younger teams in the Club at the same time.
Ollie’s widow Hillary presented the cup dedicated to his memory to Ann Gunning, the first girl to be awarded the trophy. His sister Claire was present to watch the proceedings , as was Ollie’s daughter Rebecca.
The event today was organised by Robert Bradley, Pat Hanson & Dan Fox assisted by other members of the Sevens section of the Club.
General secretary Des Clancy paid tribute to Ollie & thanked the Committee of the V&V Car Rally for the opportunity to take part each year & for the opportunity to pay tribute to someone who contributed so much to the Club.
