This may be the off season for most of the Club’s teams but for the Ladies the new 2008 summer season has just started & how well they have done so far as they sit atop Division 3 North of the Dublin Womens’ Soccer League with a haul of nine points from their first three games.
Tonight at Tully Park they swept aside visitors Dundalk (B) thanks to a six goal first half salvo & although they failed to find the net after the break Manager Karen Halpenny was nevertheless very pleased with the performance all round from start to finish. The squad on duty tonight is pictured here before the game.
Christine Watters hit four of the goals & the other two were scored by Michelle Doyle. There were impressive performances all round but newcomers Sarah Coyle, Aoife Gorman & Kim Schofield all caught as well. Janet McElroy was impressive at centre back & keeper Susan Clancy gave a fine display between the posts to keep a clean sheet.
The contest for League honours although very early in the season seems to be shaping up into one between Trim & St. Mochta’s who defeated Celtic on the two occasions that they played Celtic last year. The first meeting of the teams is scheduled to take place in Clonsilla on 7th July.
In their first game of the season they were awarded a 2-0 walkover against DMR who were unable to field & in their second game they defeated Albion Rovers from Collon, Co. Louth by a score of 3-1 at Tully Park after having fallen behind. On that occasion Niamh Holmes, Christine Watters & Avril McGowan were on target.
Next up are Sheriff Y.C. next Monday night at Tully Park – provisional.
