Veteran Dominic Martin was the hero of the day for the Club Seniors in the quarter final of the Meath & District League Challenge Cup this afternoon at Tully Park when he twice saved in a penalty shoot out to secure a win for his team against MDL Division 1 leaders Woodview Celtic from Dundalk.
The visitors took a very early lead in the game but Alan Douglas restored parity & there were no further goals in normal time. Colm Harte gave Celtic the lead in extra time only for Woodview to level late on & the contest then went to penalties. Celtic emerged 4-3 victors in the spot kick contest when Martin saved twice.
The draw for the sem finals is now eagerly awaited. The other teams through to the last four are Rock Celtic, Albion Rovers & the winners of Ardee V Duleek, all from the Premier Division. What odds a repeat of 2001 when Celtic took on Albion in the final to win the cup for the only time?
Congratulations are due to Manager Damien Dempsey & his assistants and hopes are high regardless of the opposition drawn in the draw for the semis this week.
