Congratulations to the Club’s U11A squad which this afternoon reached the National finals of the Danone Nations Cup after winning the North East area qualifying tournament at the AUL Complex in Clonshaugh in Dublin.
As current leaders of U11 Div 1 in the NECSL Celtic were representing the league for the right to go forward to the National Finals & the possibility if successful, of going on to represent the country in the European finals thereafter.
Manager Gerry Harte had the boys well motivated as they took on Rangers (Dundalk SL), Boyne Rovers B (Drogheda SL), Ballyjamesduff (Cav SL) & Castleknock Celtic (NDSL) & emerged victorious after four imprressive games in the qualifying group. Rangers were beaten 2-0, both goals coming from Eoin O’Connor. James Cullen hit a late winner against Ballyjamesduff, the only goal of the game & the saw off the challenge of Boyne Rovers B by the same score. In the last game they secured the necessary point to win the group thanks to a scoreless draw. The scond group in the tournament was won by Boyne Rovers A team & the only goal of the game was scored by Ciaran Harte in the very last minute.
This was a magnificant performance by the entire squad & they eagerly await the announcement of when & where the National Finals will be staged.
