Eight of the Club’s Schoolboy sides were in action today competing in their respective NECSL Challenge Cups & six of them won through to the next round.
John Marron’s U15s entertained Borora A & won 2-0 thanks to a first half goal by Dara Scannell & another after the break by Conor Smith. Marcus Shiels (pictured) enjoyed an outstanding game in defence.
The U16s came thought a thriller against Kingscourt Harps in Co. Cavan. The game finished 3-3 after extra time & the regulation five penalties were also tied but Celtic eventually prevailed 9-8 from the spot thanks to Michael Lydon’s penalty save & his successful kick. Jamie Lee & Thomas Noone were on target in normal time.
Nick Nally’s 14s won 3-2 at home to Kells. Having taken a 2-0 lead thanks to Mark Little they allowed the visitors to strike back early in the second period but Donal Callan replied to restore Celtic’s two goal advantage. Kells hit a late second goal.
The U13A’s defeated visitors Kells/Blackwater by a score of 5-1. The scorers were Jack Reilly, Aaron Winters, Colin Stowe, Patrick Lennon & Jack Johnston.
The U12’s sent manager John Sweeney home happy after they romped to an easy 7-0 home win over Johnstown. Fearghal O’Hare hit a hat-trick & Jack Byrne and Conor Burke hit two each.
Torro Utd. entertained the Club U11A’s but Gerry Harte’s boys were comfortable winners by a score of 2-0 on a very poor pitch. Anthony Moran & Kyle Dixon were the scorers.
Unfortunately the U11B’s & the U13B’s both made their exits from the Cup this afternoon at the hands of Kingscourt Harps. The 11B’s were beaten 5-0 at home & the 13B’s lost 1-2 also at home – Glenn Flood was the scorer.
