U13s Through in SFAI Cup Tie

In the only Schoolboy match played today, Trim Celtic U13s emerged victorious against Woodlawn FC from the NDSL Premier League in the first round of the SFAI Cup by a scoreline of 3 goals to nil. This was the fourth time that this tie was scheduled and in extremely wet and windy conditions, the match was moved to the MDL Grounds in order to get the match played.

Trim played against the wind in the first half but coped very well against their Dublin opponents. However, it was not long before Trim took the lead when a move down the right hand side resulted in Fergal O’Hare running onto a through ball and he calmly slotted to the keepers right and it trickled over the line against the strong wind. Trim held onto their lead until half time with some resolute defending and Cian Downes in goal coping with with oncoming balls over the top. In the second half, Woodlawn came out and attacked but Celtic extended their lead to 2-0 midway through the half when Fergal O’Hare again outpaced his marker and ran onto a through ball and skillfully lobbed the oncoming keeper. This sparked Woodlawn into life and they had their best spell of the match. Their second half substitute caused Trim many problems on the left hand side and they squandered a number of chances. But for the poor finishing, they should have been at least level with Trim. As the clock ran down, Trim put the game beyond doubt when Fergal O’Hare got to the byline and crossed into the box where Stephen Moroney met it first time and slotted home well. This was a great performance in dreadful conditions and now the U13s travel to Bay FC of the Dundalk Schoolboys League next week in the next round.

At this time, Trim Celtic have 6 teams all still competing in their respective SFAI Cup competitions (U11 through U16). Well done to all the teams and management!

SFAI Cup: 5 out of 5!

Trim Celtic Schoolboys had a superb set of results in the second round of their respective SFAI Cup competitions this weekend. Following on from the three wins yesterday (U16s beating Kilbarrack United 15-2, U15s beating Darndale 10-0 and the U11s beating Kells/Blackwater 6-0 – SEE PREVIOUS POST FOR DETAILS), the U14As and U12As were in action today. Both teams emerged victorious meaning that all 5 teams now advance to the next rounds of their cups.

The U14As travelled to Hartstown and came out 5-0 victors. On target for Trim were Ben Coogan with 2 goals who continues his impressive scoring form; Aaron Winters with another 2 for his first goals of the season and Jack Johnston with one, bringing his season tally to four. Equally impressive has been the Trim back line, they have only conceded one goal in four matches this season. The U14As travel away to either Clontarf or Rock Celtic/Swords Rovers A.

The U12As were away to Balbriggan FC’s A team and had to contend with very blustery conditions but came out on top with a 4-1 victory. On target were Jack Byrne with 2 goals (bringing his season tally to 14!), Pierre Fox and Ciaran Harte. In a convincing display Colin FitzGerald and Darren McGarry had great games. The U12As will now travel to either Swords Rovers or Maynooth A for a place in the next round.

Well done to all teams and good luck in the next rounds!

MDL Roundup – Three is the Magic Number

This weekend all three of our Senior teams scored three goals each. The Seniors won their first league match of the season at home to Glaslough by 3 goals to nil with Paul Campbell and Paul Gilsenan on target with the first goal coming from an OG.  Unfortunately both the Reserves and Third teams conceded three goals each ending up drawing their games 3-3. Playing Square away goals came courtesy of another OG, Patrick Peppard and Richard Fitzsimons for the Reserves who led 2-0 at one stage. The Thirds played Oldcastle at Tully Park and were 3 nil up with Dimmy Higgins, Adam Whelan and Thomas Noone finding the net before being pegged. Michael Lydon also saved a penalty during the match.

Schoolboy League Action

Today, 4 of our Schoolboy teams were in League action and there were mixed results throughout the day. The U14Bs, under the management of Brian Flood and Robbie Connell took part in a pulsating match away to Navan Town. The game ended with Trim losing 4-3, after taking a 2-0 lead in the first half. A soft penalty allowed Navan Town back into the game and ended with Trim valiantly trying to claw back a result. Ali O’Halloran scored two of Trim’s goals with Kevin Maguire scoring a superb goal.

The U13Bs travelled to Borora and produced an outstanding display to win by 12 goals to nil. Man of the match was Bartoz Stawarz who netted 7 goals! Other scorers included Dillon Dunne with 2, Roy Davidson, Chris O’Gara and Mantas Cervinskas.

The U12Bs took on Newtown in their league encounter but ended up on the end of a heavy defeat. Khalem Doyle and Neil Reilly put in good displays for the U12Bs. Meanwhile the U11Bs took on Parkvilla at the MDL grounds and ended up losing 6-0. However, for long periods this team held their own and overall, management were very happy with the performance of this young team.

SFAI Cup Weekend for Schoolboys!

This weekend is a busy weekend for Trim Celtic Schoolboys as a large number of teams are involved in the 2nd round of their respective SFAI Cup tournaments. Every year, teams from all over the country are involved in their regional sections aiming to make it to the prestigious last 32 in the National Cups.

On Saturday, the U16s, U15s and U11As all recorded resounding victories against their respective opposition.

The U16s took on Kilbarrack United from the North Dublin Schoolboys League (NDSL) at 11:30 in Tully Park and came out winners with an emphatic 15-2 victory. In a game totally dominated by Celtic, Darragh Scannell scored 4 times; Damien McGee got a hat-trick; Vivian Dwyer, Jordan Martin and Dean Kelly scored 2 each; while Darren Melia and Cian McGrenra each scored one. The next round sees Trim play away to either Kentstown Rovers or Albion Rovers/Balbriggan.

The U15s took to the field after the U16s and had an equally impressive win against Darndale FC from the NDSL. Trim hit double figures without conceding and again the goals were shared around with Donal Callan hitting four, Mark Little got 2 and there were single goals for Rian Wogan, Sam Millen and Jamie McCabe. The U15s now face the winners of Kentstown Rovers or Swords Rovers in the next round for a place in the last 32 in Ireland.

The U11As travelled to Kells to take on Kells/Blackwater. Again, this was a solid performance with Trim winning 6-0. In a great performance, Eoin Sweeney hit a hat-trick and there were individual goals from Jack Dowling, Cillian Shortt and Eoghan Daly. The U11s now face either Huntstown Villa or Bellurgan United for a place in the next round.

On Sunday, there are three more SFAI Cup ties scheduled; the U14As, U13As and U12As. Unfortunately, the U13 tie against Woodlawn FC has been called off for the third time, while the U14s and U12s are away to Hartstown United and Balbriggan A respectively. Our best wishes go out to the teams!
