5 for Thirds, Four for Seniors, Three for Reserves

Posted by admin On September - 14 - 2008

This weekend saw something of a goalfest from the senior teams. The Third Team top scored with five goals without reply against Agher Park, Donal Loughlin and Thomas Noone scored two each while Jamie Lee netted the other. David Campbell and Jonathan Shaw impressed for the victors

The Reserves fought back from three goals down to draw 3-3 with Square United. Patrick Conway started the comeback from the penalty spot with further goals from Brian Quinn and Gordon Flood saved a point. Celtic almost snatched all the points but Richard Fitzsimons’ effort flashed narrowly wide. Substitue Flood turned the game minning the penalty and scoring the equaliser while Patrick Conway and Mark Scanlon also performed well.

The Seniors travelled to Santry in Dublin to play Fenstanton FC in the FAI Junior Cup. Paul Campbell opened the scoring midway through the first half, with Gavin Meehan adding a second. The second half brought further goals from Campbell and Patrick Peppard. Campbell, Noel Payne and Cyril Halton shone for Celtic.

Thank you from Trim Celtic Sevens Soccer club

A big thank you to the parents and members of Trim Celtic Sevens soccer club for their support at the annual pre-season soccer Blitz last Saturday in Tully Park. It was a great day out for all the families involved, with bouncy Castles for the younger children, light refreshments and of course plenty of soccer.

There was also a big turn out from the girls who have been training hard during the summer months. Two girls teams from Kells Blackwater turned up for challenge games, which provided great entertainment for the large crowd.

Twelve teams played six games in a Champion league format, during the course of the afternoon, with Barcelona winning the overall competition. The O’Keane cup (in memory of the late Paul O’Keane) was presented to Luke Clohisey by Caroline O’Keane, with her children, Diarmuid, Eímear, and Fearghal in attendance also.

The Ladies team challenged the Sevens managers to a game, which proved to be very entertaining, if not exhausting for the Sevens managers. Great skill was displayed by the ladies who out run their opposition with their superior fitness levels. However the Sevens managers did win the game after a controversial penalty in the first half and a late goal in the second half.

Final word of thanks to Karen, Nora, and Fidelma who organised the light refreshments and to Robert Bradley who had the pitches in pristine condition for the Blitz.
