Celtic took the lead through Craig O’Hanlon; O’Hanlon scored a second goal while Anthony Craig also netted. The game was an even contest throughout &  was level with 20  minutes to go but Dunboyne pulled away with two late goals to win the game. The game marked the Senior debuts of the impresssive Niall Murray in goal, Aaron Newman, Cormac O’Malley & the return to the Celtic Senior team of Patrick Peppard. Richard Fitzsimons, Newman, Murray & Mick Corrigan impressed on the day.

Trial at Southampton

Trim Celtic player Colin Stowe has the opportunity of a lifetime ahead of him the week after next when he flies out to a week’s trail with English Championship club Southampton. Colin played with the NECSL’s successful Kennedy Cup squad in Limerick this year & caught the eye of all who saw his impressive displays for the local league.

Colin played for Ron Metcalfe’s U13 team last season. The team landed a ‘double’ in winning their league & shield competitions.

Everyone at the Club wishes Colin the very best of luck.

Celtic Players Feature against International Opposition

The U-15 FAI North-East Regional squad took on the Qatar national team in Bellurgan, Co. Louth on Tuesday evening of this week & came away with a very impressive 2-1 victory. Six Trim Celtic players were on duty, was over a third of the squad. The players were Gavin Mullen, Joey Corrigan, Mark Leavy, Lee Dixon, Karl Reilly & Robert Sweeney. All six players played a big part in the victory & Mark Leavy scored the North-East’s first goal of the game after he received a pass from fellow Trim Celtic teammate Gavin Mullen, his wicked cross evaded everybody to find the back of the net.

The left side combination of Dixon & Leavy were extremely impressive & Corrigan, who replaced Leavy continued the good work. Mullen, who played just off the front man was excellent in possession & was unlucky to pick up a leg injury in the second half. Robert Sweeney worked tirelessly throughout & showed why he is the current U-14 Club player of the year. He was unfortunate to pick up a second half injury. Karl Reilly appeared as a second half substitute, completing the Trim Celtic representation & he performed admirably. This was a fantastic honour for all the players & their families. Well done to all involved.

Ladies out of DWSL Intermediate Cup

A much weakened Club Ladies team travelled to Dublin to take on Division 3 South side Lucan Utd. in the second round of the DWSL Intermediate Cup recently but came away on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline despite much effort from the entire team. They travelled with more than half the regular starters unavailable through injury, holiday, work commitments & were unable to make an impression on the host team.

They were not helped by some very peculliar decisions by the referee throughout the game which served to make their task much harder.

Sabrina Gibney, Niamh Holmes & Aoife Gorman all impressed. Karen Ball equalised for Celtic in the first period but they went in trailing 1-2 at the break. Lucan added three more goals in the second half & Melissa Boland scored a late consolation for Celtic.

Up & Running!

The 2008/9 season for the Club got off to a winning start yesterday when the Reserves, under the guidance of new manager Chris O’Connor defeated MDL side Skryne/Tara by the odd goal in five at the Community School pitch.

Ritchie Fitzsimons headed a first half equaliser to leave the scores level at the break & two goals from Patrick Peppard were enough to win the game, a useful work out after all the hard work at midweek training. The wining goal was scored by Peppard from the spot after he was fouled.

Next Saturday the Reserves line out against Longwood at Tully Park, kick off 3pm & on next Sunday the Seniors travel to take on Dunboyne from the Major Division of the Leinster Senior League in Dunboyne. Kick off is fixed for 11am.
