The Club’s U14’s received a walkover this evening in their scheduled Division 1 game against Bailieboro. This  guarantees them the runner-up spot. The finished in the number one spot for the last two years.

They have two matches left this season - the finals of the Challenge Cup & the Premier Shield.

Trim Celtic Sevens Club held its annual Presentation Function in the Town Hall last Sunday afternoon before a huge crowd of supporters & Club members and a most enjoyable afternoon was had by everyone present.

Chairman Pat Hanson assisted by his Committee Members had been working for several weeks to ensure that the event was successful & they were not disappointed. Most of the Club’s 150 Sevens players were present to receive souvenir medals for the efforts on the field during the season & some special presentations were made also.

Another Celtic team fought it’s way to an NECSL Shield final this evening at Tully Park when Robert Bradley steered the U16’s to the decider thanks to an impressive 3-1 win over Albion Rovers. Damien McGee hit two & Simon Dixon the other against Albion Rovers from Co. Louth.

This brings to five the number of Celtic teams that will contest NECSL Shield finals with the U15’s still to play their semi final next Saturday against Albion Rovers.

With one game still to play the Club’s Reserve Team this evening became the 2007/8 MDL Premier Reserve Division champions when the news came through that Glenmuir had failed to defeat Duleek at the Tollstone in their last game of the season. What a climax to the season this is for Luke Dempsey’s team, trailing so far behind the pace setters for so long, to put in a finishing burst over the last six weeks to secure the title!

Former Celtic player Tim Clancy suffered a serious injury last Saturday afternoon during Kilmarnock’s SPL game against Gretna at Rugby Park. This follows a seven week absence as a result of a hip injury he incurred last September. His season started late because of a knee cartilage operation last summer & he also missed out as a result of tonsillitis in last December.

On Saturday he suffered suffered serious ligament damage above his left ankle & following a scan today it was decided that he will undergo surgery this week.

The Committee of the Ladies Club this evening appointed Karen Halpenny as manager of the Club’s Ladies Team for the 2008/09 season.

Karen has significant previous managerial experience & has completed the FAI Kick Start 1 & 2, Senior Intro & Goalkeeping Intro coaching courses.

She joins the Club as it plans to expand its membership to enable an U16 or U17 girls team to be fielded in the near future. She will shortly appoint her sideline assistants.

After the disappointment of losing the NECSL Challenge Cup final to MV Bhoys last Saturday at the MDL Grounds, Gerry Harte’s U11A’s needed little motivation this evening when the two sides met again in the last league match of the season at Tully Park & in some style they romped home by a score of 4-1 to land the league title before an enthusiastic crown of supporters.

With one game remaining the MDL Premier Reserve league table looks like this…

With Duleek playing Glenmuir this evening, a draw or a win for Duleek will give Celtic the title. A win for Glenmuir will mean that it’ll go right down to the final game of the season, when Celtic will take on Ardee at Tully Park on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Although the team struggled to get the results its performances deserved all season, spirits were as high yesterday as they were on the first day of the season last September.
