Heavy Defeat for Seniors in Cup Semi

The Club Seniors travelled to day to Ardee in high hopes of reaching the final of the Meath & District League Challenge Cup but returned on the wrong end of the 0-3 beating at the hands of favourites & Premier Division leaders Rock Celtic from Dundalk.

Although the game was scoreless at half time, the opposition soon took control in the second period & after keeper Dominic Martin retuired injured shortly after the break it was all downhill. The score was 0-1 at the time of his departure but shortly after he was replaced by Seamus Harte, Michael Corrigan conceded a penalty & there was no coming back after that. The third goal scored by the Co. Louth men was academic really, the game had been lost at that stage.

‘In truth Celtic were always in an uphill struggle with a few key men having off days. It would have required a top class all round display by every player across the field to see off Rock Celtic but it was not to be unfortunately’, said Club Chairman Robert Bradley after the game. ‘This year’s cup run to the penultimate stage was still a great achievent nevertheless’, he added.

Full match report to folow.

Good Luck

Best wishes to the Club Seniors in their big game today against Rock Celtic in the semi final of the MDL Challenge Cup. The only time that Celtic previously won the cup was back in 2001 but hopes are high that the boys can overcome the favourites this afternoon & advance to the showpiece.

The absence of Paul Campbell (in Australia) will be a big loss to Celtic no doubt but the team is sufficiently strong in all departments even without him to meet the challenge.

This is the biggest game of the year for the Seniors & we wish them well. The game is scheduled to kick off at 2.30 pm at Townparks in Ardee.

Result & full match report to follow.
