Seniors Draw at Home

The Club Seniors drew 1-1 at Tully Park this afternoon with visitors Glaslough Villa from Co. Monaghan on what can best be described as an ‘off day’. The game was played in almost perfect conditions but a strangely subdued performance must be a slight worry to manager Damien Dempsey as he prepares for the quarter final of the MDL Challenge Cup coming up next Sunday week against Woodview, (who defeated OMP Utd this morning).Indeed it took an injury time equaliser from David Conway who had been pushed forward from centre back late in the game, to secure a share of the spoils. To see more pictures click here. The U17 game scheduled for this morning was postponed.

MDL Challenge Cup Quarter Finals

The quarter finals of the Meath & District League Challenge Cup are scheduled to be played on or before the weekend of 9th March & what an intriguing series of games awaits local soccer fans.

Glaslough Villa Vs Albion Rovers or Kells/Blackwater
Trim Celtic Vs Woodview or OMP Utd.
Rock Celtic Vs Bellurgan
Ardee Celtic Vs Duleek or BMC Utd.

Duleek, currently 3rd in the Premier Division must must be fancied to see off the challenge of Division 2 side BMC Utd. A trip to play Premier side Ardee Celtic (currently 9th) in the last eight awaits the winner. Premier Division leaders & bookies’ favourites Rocl Celtic have home advantage against Bellurgan’s reserve side which players in Division 1 (their 1st team plays in the Atheletic Union League) & will be confident of going through to the semis. That tie is down for next Friday night in Dundalk.

Premier Division side Glaslough Villa will entertain the winners of Albion Rovers (currently 8th in the Premier Division) & Division 1  side Kells/Blackwater who are down to play tomorrow. Albion, beaten finalists in 2001 when Trim won the cup for the only time are probably favourites to go through to the last four.

Trim will have home advantahe when they take on the winners of Woodview Vs OMP Utd both of the 1st Division. Woodview lie 4th in the division at present with games in hand & will fancy their chances tomorrow when they play the 5th placed Navan side at home. Neither will fancy the trip to meet Celtic in Tully Park.

Manager Damien Dempsey will be determined to see that his side are well prepared & motivated when the game comes round regardless of who the opposition is but he will be mindful of the absence of talisman Paul Campbell who departs for Australia tomorrow. However he will also be confident that if his team playes to its potential it will have enough to see off the challenge & advance to the semis.
