The Club’s seven-a-side young footballers – boys & girls alike, took to the streets of Trim this afternoon despite the very inclement weather conditions to take part of the Sponsored 5K Walk organised by the Committee of the Sevens Football Club.
Nearly 160 youngsters were joined by several dozen parents & supporters to complete the route in about 90 minutes to raise funds for the Club’s thirteen seven-a-side teams from U8 to U10 inclusive & the Fun Club which caters for U6 & U7 players.
The event coincided with the launch of the Sli na Slainte signposted route & Cllr. Butler & Minister Dempsey took time off to attend the official opening of the new walk which is sponsored by the Irish Heart Foundation.
Chairman of the Sevens Club, Pat Hanson was busy for the last few weeks making the arrangements with his colleagues Dan Fox & Colum Clohisey & other members of the Sevens Club Committee. They were assisted by a number of parents & other volunteers this afternoon to ensure that the event was completed safely. The local Civil defence supported the event & invited guests incuded Cllr. Ray Butler Chairman of Trim Town Council & Minister Noel Dempsey, both of whom have sons involved with Trim Celtic although not with the Sevens!
‘I would like to express my thanks on behalf of all of our young players to everyone to helped make this afternoon’s event such a success. We are very grateful to everyone who provided sponsorship for your young players & to everyone who helped us with the arrangements’ said Pat after the walk finished. ‘Despite the very bad weather the boys & girls all completed the walk which will provide very valuable funds for all our teams’.
