2/2/08 U15 SFAI Evans Cup
Trim Celtic 0-5 Castlebar Celtic
Halftime: 0-0
Expectations were high but performances did not match up. Even though Trim had a shaky start they also created a few good chances the best of which fell to Colm Conneely but his shot was saved by the Castlebar keeper. The visitors scored in the 37th minute & went 2-0 up half way through the second period. Castlebar were the better team & capitalised on Trim mistakes to score another three.
But for Cian McGrenra’s two headers off the line & Ryan Andrews’ many excellent saves it could have been more. Trim playing against a team in the the green/white hoops made basic errors – many passes going to opposition players; straying out of position; leaving little cover. Colm Conneely until injured & Ryan Andrews were superb.
Trim Celtic: Ryan Andrews, Bob Maguire, James Hyland, Darren Melia, Sean Sheridan, Darragh Scannell, Colm Conneely, Ryan Keenan, Dean kelly, Conor Smith, Scott McGowan.
Subs: Sean Hyland, Cian McGrenra for Conneely, Conor Daly, Lewis Dowling for Scannell, Marcus Shiels, Daniel McGrianna, Brian Marron.

Trim Celtic 5-2 Kinsealy Boys AET (2-2 after normal time)
Halftime: Trim Celtic 1-2 Kinsealy Boys
Trim Celtic scorers: Darragh Scannell (4), Conor Smith

Celtic U15s booked themselves a place in the last 32 of the all-Ireland SFAI Cup with a fine win in extra time over Kinsealy Boys from Dublin. Darragh Scannel had a fine game in midfield, scoring as early as the 4th minute & going close with two other shots on target. Kinsealy however scored twice – in the 17th & 26th minutes, after poor defending from set pieces by Celtic who were otherwise playing very well. Darragh Scannell scored a great equaliser 9 minutes into the 2nd half.  At this point, Trim Celtic were on top but despite many near misses the third goal would not come.  The game finished 2-2 after full time and went to extra time. Trim got two quick goals with Darragh Scannell & Conor Smith scoring after the 3rd and 4th minutes of extra time. Scannell tapped home his 4th goal in the 2nd period of extra time. This was a great team display. Ryan Andrews in goal did all he was asked. Apart from the two Kinsealy goals the defence dealt comfortably with all that was asked of them & were ably supported by a skilful & hard working midfield & front two. Darragh Scannell & Ryan Keenan were superb, closely followed by Dean Kelly & Conor Smith.

This was great team effort by the promoted Celtic against last year’s Champions, Carrick Rovers. Four newcomers were introduced for this game and helped improve on last week’s dire performance.  Trim were unlucky not to take a goal lead in the first half, playing uphill against the wind.  New striker Tommy Regan hit the crossbar from 25yds, 10 minutes from half time.  Trim took the lead 10 minutes into the 2nd half from a shot by Lewis Dowling who continuously skinned his marker.  A slip-up near the end allowed Carrick to get an equaliser. The Carrick scorer kicked the ball out of Ryan Andrew’s hands to score.  This Trim team worked very hard & showed great skill, with every player excelling.  James Hyland was man of the match closely followed by Lewis Dowling, Bob Maguire, Darren Melia, Ryan Keenan, Colm Conneely & Conor Smith.
