The winning of the MDL Premier Division League title today was actually the first league won by a Club First Team since 1978 according to Club ‘historian’ Ciaran Gaughran. Although the Club Seniors have ‘knocked on the door’ many times over the years in the Leinster Junior, Leinster Senior and Meath & District Leagues, it was not until this afternoon that a gap of 29 years was bridged and how fitting it was to see two men present who have served the Club so loyally during those years – Peter Campbell & Christy Ginnerty. Peter was a young player back in 1978 & served as team assistant this year to manager Alan Kirwan. The successful manager back in 1978 was none other than Christy Ginnerty (pictured right). Both were proud men this afternoon and one wonders what memories sprung to mind for both of them as they watched on.
