The Premier Division Title of the MDL, which has for several years eluded the best efforts of the Club’s Senior Team finally arrived at Tully Park today after a fine display by Alan kirwan’s team saw them defeat visitors Rock Celtic by a score of 3-1, in a game played out in perfect conditions. Scenes of great excitement were witnessed when referee Reuban McManus blew the final whistle and more than a few tears were shed by young and old alike as the trophy was presented to Celtic captain Michael Corrigan by Irish Junior International team manager Gerry Smith who was present at the game. The climax to the most successful season the Club has enjoyed in its 40 years was witnessed by a large crowd including a travelling contingent from Dundalk.
The first goal was an OG from a corner after 10 minutes and man of the match Paul Gilsenan hit the other two. His first left the score 2-0 to Trim at the break and his second was a most impressive solo effort coming as it did shortly after the visitors scored and just as the news came through that Square Utd. had taken the lead away to Albion Rovers.
The celebrations will go on well into the night and indeed for several days to come.
Well done to all the boys and the management team.
