The untimely death last weekend of former Committee member John O’Toole represented one of the biggest losses suffered by this Club since its foundation forty years ago this year. Known effectionately as ‘Slim’ to all who knew him, John was one of the Club’s best and most loved supporters and spent many years in the service of the Club as Committee Member, Team Manager & supporter. His contribution was immense and he left a mark on the life of this Club like few before him & most that will come after him.

John was one of a small group who managed Club teams in both of the local leagues – MDL and NECSL & those who played for him got to know his unique style of management – a style that was very successful on the field. More than once he fought his way into the winners enclosure in local competitions. He also travelled to France twice with the Club & typically made many friends there during those visits to Etrepagny.

John’s contribution to the Club was recognised after the 1994/5 seasion when he was presented with the Clubman of the Year trophy and indeed there were other years when he might have been given the same trophy.

The Club has been privilaged to have many members of John’s family associated with it over the years – on & off the field and to them and to all of the extended O’Toole family we send our sincerest sympathy upon their great loss. John’s name will never be forgotten out at Tully Park – he left us all with so many great memories.

‘I enjoyed the pleasure of knowing John since I first joined the Club back in the early 80’s & we remained great friends ever since. Although he has not been active inside the Club for a few years now, he continued as a great supporter of Trim Celtic long after he moved on to pursue other interests. I have wonderful memories of lining out for the Club alongside John long before most of the current members were even born, happy memories indeed. Like so many others I have lost a great friend and I will miss him dearly.’ – Des Clancy, Club Secretary.

May He Rest in Peace
