Yesterday was a good day for Club teams in action locally with six wins out of seven games played.
First the bad news! The Reserves crashed out of the MDL Reilly Cup away to Duleek, comprehensively beaten 0-3 thanks to a very poor performance best forgotten. The Thirds travelled to Agher Park and advanced to the next round of the MDL Reserve Cup thanks to a 4-2 win on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Slawek Cygan was on target from play.
The five games played in the NECSL produced a clean sweep of results.
The 16s travelled to Kingscourt and defeated thier hosts 5-0 in the Challenge Cup. On target were Donal Loughlin, Adam Whelan, Stephen Moriarty, Eoin Hanson & Rory McEntee who hit one each.
Shay Lee saw his 15s draw 2-2 with Kells away in the Cup after Keith Earls & Jamie Lee found the net. No more goals were scored in extra time and the penalty shoot out saw Celtic through on a 4-3 scoreline.
The 14s played a League match away to Newtown and came home with three more points. Conor Smith & Ryan Andrews with a late header both scored to keep John Marron’s team unbeaten in Div 2 of the NECSL.
The 13s won 4-1 in the Cup away to Division 2 side Ardee despite trailing at the break. Sean Fitzgerald, Jack Reilly, Gavin Mullen & Robert Sweeney hit the net for Celtic in the second half.
The 12s also advanced in the Cup thanks to a Colin Stowe goal, the only one of the game away to Johnstown.
