The only scheduled NECSL fixture to be played today was the U11 game away to Navan Town and although the team actually lost the game 1-2 (first League defeat of the season) the main business of the day was the presentation of the League Championshiop Trophy afterwards.

Having already won the title two weeks ago the game itself was a relaxed affair played out in beautiful sunshine. Afterwards it fell to team captain Stephen Moroney to accept the trophy (above) on behalf of all of his team mates amid scenes of celebration by all the boys and the travelling contingent of parents and supporters. Stephen (who scored Celtic’s goal today) also said a few appropriate words on behalf of his team mates (below).

Congratulations are due to each and every one of the players for their efforts since the start of the season last August and thanks are due to all the parents who helped throughout the season but mostly to Team Manager John Sweeney & Asssistant Manager Mark Sweeney for their shrewd and skillful management of the team from the start.

The squad has now turns it’s attention to the quest for further honours in the NECSL Shield and Cup competitions.
