Sevens Sponsored Walk

Trim Celtic’s Sevens Club stages its first annual 5K sponsored walk next Sunday & Chairman Pat Hanson has appealed to all members of Trim Celtic - young & old and indeed everyone in Trim to come out & support the event which is scheduled to start at 2pm from the Castle lawn.

All thirteen seven-a-side teams in the Sevens Club (about 140 children) will take part along with their managers & coaches. The local Civil Defence will lead off the walk & members of the Drogheda Utd team will also attend with the National League trophy which they won for the very first time in their long history last month. In addition a large contimngent of parents is expected to turn up.

Cllr. Ray Butler, Chairman of Trim Town Council has promised to participate also.

All of the Club’s young Sevens players from U8 to U10 have been busy with their sponsorship cards recently & the Club would like to acknowledge the huge support & encouragement given to them. Once again the generosity of the local community is to the fore in a vital area - the service of our young people.

We wish Pat, his Committee & all of our young players the very best of luck on Sunday. Hopefully the weather will be kind!

Watchful Eye

Keeping a close on eye on the action further up the field in the Club’s U11 SFAI Cup match in Maynooth today was young Celtic keeper Darren McGarry.

Darren’s team were never really in trouble in the game & he did not see a great deal of the action but what he had to do he did very well.

Seniors Remove Holders from Challenge Cup

It took a superb volley from last year’s MDL Player of the Year Paul Campbell to win this competitive MDL Challenge Cup tie which was played at the MDL Grounds this afternoon.

Navan Town as holders of the trophy, provided a very tough challenge for the Club Seniors as they sought to end a disappointing run of recent results & manager Damien Dempsey (pictured) will be a happy man this evening having seen his side rise to the challenge & get back to winning ways.

Although Celtic were well in control from the off the teams turned around with the game scoreless & it took a piece of individual brilliance to settle the issue.

Next up are the winners of the Boyne Harps V Glenmuir 1st Round tie.

Well done lads!

11As & 14s Win in SFAI Cups

Two more impressive performances in the SFAI Cup competitions saw Celtic teams advance to the next round today at their respective ages.

The 11As travelled to Maynooth to take on Maynooth Town & were never really troubled in winning 5-2. The scorers were James Cullen (2), Peter Gavin (2) & Ciaran Harte. They now await the winners of the Balbriggan/Glebe North tie with a place in the last 32 of the national competition at stake. Pictures shows some goalmouth action from today’s game. For more pictures click here.

Also away tofday were the 14s who made the trip to Co. Louth to take on Walshestown & happy to report they also won albeit by a lesser margin 2-0. Donal Callan & Mark Little were on target in a very competitive game. Next up - the winners of Clontarf V Monaghan Utd for a place in the last 32.

On the domestic front, the U17s played Carrick Rovers at home in an NECSL league match but lost heavily 1-6. Darragh Kennedy scored for Celtic.

Congratulations to Celtic’s Oscar Traynor Players Campbell & Harte

Although the MDL Oscar Traynor team was beaten in its first outing in this year’s tournament by the Athletic Union League (AUL) in Dublin, Celtic’s two representatives on the team Paul Campbell (pictured below) & Colm Harte can both look back with a great deal of satisfaction having performed very impressively against the tournament favourites.

Paul Campbell

The MDL started very slowly & fell 0-3 behind quite early in the game but a fine second half display to which Campbell & Harte contributed handsomely saw them make a entertaining contest of the game but unfortunately not enough to turn the result around. Colm Harte (pictured below) went close to scoring during this period.

Next up for the MDL is the Leinster Senior League after which they take on the Amateur League, holders of the Oscar Traynor trophy. Games resume early in the New Year.

SFAI Cup Draws

The Club has three Schoolboy teams still competing in their respective National Cups

This afternoon’s cup win over Kinsealy Boys by the Club’s U15s saw them through to the last 32 teams remaining nationally in the SFAI Evans Cup competition.

If the 11As beat Maynooth Town tomorrow they will have home advantage against the winners of Balbriggan & Glebe North for a place in the last 32 of the SFAI Menton/Seery Cup.

If the 14s can see off Walshestown in Co. Louth tomorrow they also will have home advantage in the next round against the winners of  Clontarf V Monaghan Utd for a place in the last 32 of the SFAI Goodson Cup.

Reserves Back to Winning Ways

The Club Reserves won 2-1 away to Glaslough this afternoon having gone a goal down very early in the game. The result was sweet revenge for Celtic after their early season defeat in Tully Park by the same opposition & it keeps them nicely placed in the chase for MDL Premier Reserve league honours.

Both of Celtic’s goals were scored by a McCormack - but not the same player. Alan (’Spid’) got one & the other was scored by Mark.

Well done lads!

Former Celtic Keepers

Former Club Chairman & Founder Member Christy Ginnerty (left) & former player John Andrews were pictured this afternoon at the MDL Grounds during the U15 game against Kinsealy Boys in the SFAI Cup.

Christy’s grandson Christopher plays for the Club’s U10 Swifts & John’s son Ryan played in goal today for the 15s, following in the footsteps of his father who distinguised himself as a keeper for Celtic in the 1980’s. John is currently manager of the Meath Hurling team. Christy himself was a keeper for the Club also & the evidence can bee seen by clicking here where he is pictured in the Trim Celtic line-ups of 1967 & 1970 (scroll down to see the Lev Yashin look alike!).

What could they have been talking about?
