Seniors Draw

The Club Seniors playeed out a scoreless draw away to Ardee Celtic last Sunday thus failing to take advantage of the points dropped by Rock Celtic on last Friday night and to make matters worse for manager Alan Kirwan he had to watch midfielder Paul Campbell ordered to the line for two yellows. Paul automatically misses the next Senior Team League game and the MDL will decide this week if any further sanctions will be imposed.

Mixed Fortures

Celtic teams enjoyed mixed results today in local competition with three defeats and two victories out of five games played.

The Reserves travelled to Ardee to play Square United and won 2-1 thanks to a last minute penalty conversion by Noel Payne. Team captain Mark Scanlon (pictured) scored the first goal. The result is the fifth straight win for Luke Dempsey’s team.

The U13s were the only schoolboy team to win today. They avenged a defeat earlier this season by beating Kingscourt 4-1 at Tully Park. On target were Joan Lehmann, Rian Wogan, Gavin Mullen & Sean Spratt. It now looks likely that the destination of the NECSL Div 1 League title will be decided by the big game next weekend against Kentstown at Tully Park.

The U15s lost 2-4 away to Albion Rovers – a result which effectively puts them out of contention for the NECSL Div 1 League title. The U12s lost 2-5 at home against visitors Bailieboro in their NECSL Div 1 League match. Scorers not known. The U14s travelled to play Parkvilla in the Cup but lost out to the Div 1 side by the odd goal in three. Darragh Scannell was on target with a 20 yard free kick. John Marron’s boys will now have to settle down to winning the NECSL Div 2 League title over the next few weeks.

All eyes now turn to the Senior team away to Ardee tomorrow. They will be anxious to capitalise on the slip up by Rock Celtic on Friday night when they drew 2-2 at home to Slane Wanderers. Manager Alan Kirwan has a full squad to pick from.

MDL Cup Draw

Celtic have been drawn at home to Ardee Celtic in the quarter final of the MDL Challenge Cup – a pairing that adds extra spice to next Sunday’s League match between the two sides in Ardee. Manager Alan Kirwan (pictured) was philosophical upon hearing the draw. ‘There are eight good teams left at this stage. Celtic have already drawn 1-1 with Ardee in Tully Park at the start of the season but with the form we are in right now we must be confident of advancing’ he reacted. The match will be played on Sunday 11th March.

Seniors Advance in Challenge Cup

The Club Seniors advanced to the quarter final stage of the MDL Challenge Cup thanks to a comprehensive 5-0 victory over MDL Division 2 leaders Termonfeckin this morning in Co. Louth. Paul Campbell opened the scoring from the penalty spot, David Conway (pictured) weighed in with another and Kevin Meehan hit two in a very slick overall perfomance. The opposition also scored an OG. This result leaves Alan Kirwan’s men still on track for a possible MDL League & Cup double. The team travelled without two key members who let manager Alan Kirwan down by declaring themselves unavailable yesterday.

Managerial Change

Peter Callaghan stepped down recently from his position as Coach/Manager to the U10 Eagles and he has been replaced by Kieron Fletcher – see Club Contact Information.

The Committee would like to express its gratitude to Peter for his sterling work over the last few years and assure him that he would be very welcome back at any time.

Plans are currently underway to form two eleven-a-side teams at U11 next season from the four U10 seven-a-side teams presently lining out. Parents are invited to contact the Club if any concerns arise.
