Happy Saturday for Schoolboys

Celtic teams recorded four wins of of four games played today in the first full Saturday of fixtures since last year. After so many postponements because of the weather in recent weeks it was great to see the boys back in action.

Michael Loughlin’s U16s travelled to Agher and came home with the points after a 4-1 win. On target were Stephen Moroarty (2), Darragh Kennedy & Donal Loughlin. This was a most satisfying result considering that the team last lined out in November!

The scheduled U14 game away in Agher did not take place because the appointed referee failed to turn up. The Club is trying to establish where responsibility lies. This was the second time in recent weeks that  a Club team travalled in vain to an away fixture. Last week the U15s travelled to Albion Rovers only to find that the game had been postponed.

The U13s travelled to Albion Rovers today and won 3-0 thanks to goals from Joan Lehmann (2) and Gavin Mullen. This win keeps Nick Nally’s boys on target for retaining their NECSL Div 1 League title.

The U12s defeated Kingscourt 2-0 at Tully Park to claim three more valuable NECSL Div 1 League points. The scorers (pictured below) were Malachy Joe Gavin and Ciaran O’Rourke. Manager Ron Metcalfe will be hoping for more displays like this in the weeks to come.

John Sweeney & Mark Farrell watched their U11s defeat Athboy 5-0 at Tully Park – a result that means that they need only one more point to wrap up the NECSL Div 1 League. The marksmen were Stephen Moroney (pen), Kevin Nally (2), Shane Moore & Neil Sweeney.

No Luck in January MDL Draw

Sad to report the Club enjoyed no luck in the January MDL Car Draw but we hope that the February or March draws might land a prize for one of the Club’s many supporters.

Senior Cup Match Abandoned

The Club’s Senior Team travelled to Termonfeckin this morning for its scheduled MDL Challenge Cup match against the locals but the game was abandoned after 18 minutes due to a deteriorating pitch which created a safety hazard. There was no score at the time.

The re-arranged U13 Cup match at Tully Park this morning also fell foul of the weather.

Saturday’s Results

Only two games were played today and both finished in wins for the boys wearing the green & white hoops.

The U11′s enjoyed an easy win over NECSL Div 2 side Oldcastle in the Challenge Cup this morning at Tully Park. They ran out 9-1 winners in a one sided encounter.

The Reserves defeated OMP Utd at Tully Park in the MDL Reserve Cup by a score of 2-0.

Sad to report the U15s travelled all the way to Collon in Co. Louth only to find that their NECSL Cup game had been called off. The Club has asked the League to establish where the breakdown in communication occurred.
