The new NECSL Seven-a-Side season started today when hundreds of young kids converged on the MDL Grounds in Navan and what a successful day it turned out to be.

The U10 Cubs managed by Peter Madden defeated Johnstown Tigers 4-0 thanks to goals by Anthony Moran (3) & Daniel Lewis and in their second game they lost 2-5 to Johnstown Panthers. Daniel Lewis was on target again plus an OG. 
Peter Callagnan’s U10 Eagles enjoyed one win & one defeat also. They defeated Johnstown Panthers 5-4, with Ross Power, James Cullen (2) & Cian Goodwin on target. In their second game they lost out 1-3 to Enfield. James Cullen was on target again. Gerry Harte’s U10 Raptors won both their games. Eoin O’Connor, David Rennick & Luke Moran found the net against Athboy Panthers in a 3-0 win. Jack McGowan, Pierre Fox, Luke Moran, Kyle Dixon & David Rennick all scored in the second game – a 5-0 defeat of Agher Park. No luck for the U10 Jets under the management of Pascal Corrigan despite two gallant displays on their first ever visit to the MDL. They lost 0-4 against Enfield and 0-3 against Johnstown Panthers. This was their first ever NECSL games.

The U9 Tigers kicked off their season with two fine wins to please manager John Sweeney. Eoin Sweeney (3), Dean Egan & Jack Kelly found the net in a 5-2 win over Athboy Tigers and in their second game they defeated Athboy Cubs by a sore of 9-2 thanks to goals by James McKeown (3), Dean Egan (2), Gareth Van der Westhuizen (2), Jack Kelly & Eoin Sweeney. Paddy Doyle’s U9 Spikes also enjoyed two wins. They saw off the challenge of Johnstown Panthers by a score of 3-0. On target were Colm Lennon (2) & Jack Dowling. They also won against Enfield with Luke Doyle, Eoin Daly & Alex Walsh on target in a 3-1 win. Dan Fox’s U9 Swifts had Cillian Shortt to thank for a 1-0 win over Enfield – his goal settled a well contested game. And in their second game they lost 1-2 against Athboy Tigers, with Cillian Shortt again on target!

At U8 Adrian Geraghty’s Pumas got off to a great start. They beat Enfield Milanos 11-0 thanks to goals by Fintan Devlin (3), Conor Proust (3), Conor Sweeney (3), Mikey Cullen & Zak MacGowan. In their second game they defeated Enfield 9-2. The goals were scored by Kark Corcoran (2), Zak MacGowan (2), Conor Proust (3), Pierce Darby & Fintan Devlin. Colum Clohisey’s U8 Falcons defeated Johnstown Panthers 5-2 in their first game. On target were Ben Harrison, David Murtagh & Peter Farrell. In their second game they defeated Trim Celtic Rovers 3-2 thanks to goals from Niall Durjan & Ben Harrison (2). Alan Kirwan’s Rascals only played one game and the also tasted victory in a 4-0 win over Enfield. The scorers were Conor McKenna, David Harper, Danny Morris 7 Mark Donoghue. The game also featured a top class display in goal by James O’Neill. Making their NECSL debut were John Dalton’s Beavers and they defeated Johnstown Tigers 2-0 in their first ever game. The marksmen was Alan Monaghan with both goals. In their second game they lost out to Johnstown Panthers by a score of 2-7. On target were Alan Monaghan again & Thomas Doyle. Also making his managerial debut was Pat Hanson (pictured above) and he saw his U8 Rovers defeat Trim Town 1-0 thanks to a Cormac Boggan strike but he then tasted defeat by the Trim Celtic Falcons, losing 2-3. The scorer was James Mitchell and the other was an OG.
