The Reserves stayed on course to retain their Reserve Cup title with a hard fought victory over the clubs 3rd team in Tully Park on Tuesday night. It was a great achievement for the club to have 2 teams battling for the cup and after a very tough opening 20 mins the Reserves took the lead when Gavin Meehan’s cross from the left was superbly converted by Paul Munnelly. Munnelly then got brought down in the box and Alan McCormack coolly converted the penalty to leave it 2-0 at the break. The 3rds fought back in the 2nd half and pressured their opponents all over the pitch and Michael Tyndell’s excellent touch and finish pulled it back to 2 – 1. Tyndell had a similar effort ruled out for offside and Reserve keeper Tony McDonnell was forced to make a superb save to keep his side in the lead. But strength in depth was the key factor in the end and the Reserves were able to bring Seamus Harte and Noel Payne off the bench to add some class, it was Harte who scored the third goal and set-up Alan Douglas for the fourth to put the game beyond doubt. Overall it was a good night in which the club can be very proud of both sides with Andy Reilly, Alan McCormack and Gavin Meehan showed up well for the winners while Anthony Craig, Aaron Newman and Colm Doyle were best for the Thirds.
