Mixed Fortunes for Ladies

Celtic’s Ladies suffered an early season setback in their Dublin Women’s League campaign (Inter 4 North) last Monday night when they lost 2-1 against National League side Drogheda Utd. in United Park, despite taking the lead thanks to a strike by Celine McLarney. Tonight in the Intermediate Shield, the Club Ladies enjoyed better fortunes closer to home when they defeated Ratoath Harps in Ratoath by a score of 4-0, with all of the goals coming in the first period as they played with a strong wind at their backs. Avril McGowan found the net three times and Virginia Smith also scored in a facile win which sees the Trim girls through to the Shield quarter final. Next up for the Ladies is Premier Division side Peamount in the FAI National Cup in Newcastle, Co. Dublin next Sunday.

NECSL ‘Fair Play’ League

At the the AGM of the North Eastern Counties Schoolboys’ League held last Saturday in Navan, it was revealed that two of the Club’s squads from last season had emerged as winners in their respective divisions of the Fair Play League.

‘Congratulations are due to Michael Loughlin & Paddy Kennedy (U15) and Ron Metcalfe & Michael Johnston (U11) on behalf of their squads on this fine achievement. This bears out our commitment throughout the entire Club to achieve the highest standards on the field of play from First Team right down to our Under 8′s. At times we are rightly critical of the behaviour or some of our squads and so is very important that we recognise success in this key area when it comes our way. Generally speaking, discipline on the field is very good.’ said Club Secretary Des Clancy after Saturday’s meeting.
