Trim Celtic 3 – 4 Square Utd

Halftime: 1 – 4

Trim Celtic scorers: Craig O’Hanlon, O.G., Ross Campbell

Sent off: Dominic Martin, Danny Quinn.

In an exciting game Square United came away from Tully Park with
all three points despite a gallant second half effort from ten-man Trim
Celtic. Trim Celtic had the first chance but Craig O’Hanlon’s lob fell
just over the crossbar. Square United took the lead early in the first
half with a well taken goal however Celtic replied soon after when
Craig O’Hanlon pounced on some hesitation in the Square defence to
score from eighteen yards. The turning point in the game came as
Dominic Martin handled a goal ward effort on the line, resulting in a
penalty which was duly converted but also led to a red card for the
defender. Square exploited the extra man in the remaining fifteen
minutes of the half and scored two goals from long range to give them a
4 -1 lead.

In the second half Trim Celtic rallied with David Conway heading
wide from Craig O’Hanlon’s cross. Colm Harte came close twice, once
after a superb solo run when he narrowly shot wide, the second with a
diving header that was cleared off the line. The breakthrough came when
Paul Campbell’s deep corner was headed across the goal line by
substitute Ross Campbell, only for the ball to be diverted into the
goal by a Square defender. Ross Campbell then gave Celtic further hope
when he curled a free-kick into the top corner. Substitute Danny Quinn
was sent off for a foul with the Square goalkeeper also receiving his
marching orders for dissent associated with the same incident. In the
dying minutes Trim Celtic failed to test Square’s emergency keeper and
Square took all three points.
