Trim Celtic got off to a flying start by taking the lead within ninety
seconds when Derek Donohoe raced clear to chip the keeper from eighteen
yards. On fifteen minutes Donohe doubled Celtic’s lead with a similar
goal, again racing through to chip the Carrick keeper. At this stage
Celtic looked confident while Carrick looked rattled, David Fagan came
close with another chip while Craig O’Hanlon was foiled by the keeper
in a one on one situation.

In the second half O’Hanlon got on the scoresheet when he pounced on a
rebound following a David Fagan shot. Carrick then broke to pull a goal
back and give themselves hope. A long punt upfield cause confusion in
the Celtic box and led to a Carrick penalty which was converted to
bring the score to 3- 2. At this stage Celtic crucially had a goal
disallowed when Craig O’Hanlon raced through to lob the keeper, however
the referee’s spotted a foul that nobody else did to halt Celtic’s
celebrations. Substitutes Shane Ashe and Gordon Flood came close to for
Celtic but both were denied by the goalkeeper. In an amazing turnaround
Carrick broke twice, firstly to equalise with minutes remaining and
then to grab a winner in injury time.

Best for Trim Celtic were Keith Jones, David Fagan and Derek Donohoe.
