NECSL Under 13 Shield Final
Trim Celtic 3 – 1 Kingscourt
Halftime: 0 – 1
Trim Celtic scorers: Diarmuid Higgins 2, Damien McGee
Trim Celtic secured success in the Shield final with a well deserved victory over Kingscourt in a pulsating contest. Trim went into the final as underdogs having previously been defeated by the Cavan side and in the first half were nervous and tentative as Kingscourt set the pace. Kingscourt hit the bar after fifteen minutes and Dillan Murrnin
had to be alert in goal to keep them at bay. Just on halftime when it looked as though Celtic had
weathered the Kingscourt storm a free kick into the Celtic box was finished from close range and
Kingscourt took the lead.
The second half saw a transformation in Trim Celtic, pushed on by Jamie Lee and Damien McGee in
midfield they took the game to Kingscourt. After pressure from Darren Melia and Sean Foley a chance was
created for Diarmuid Higgins which he tucked away from ten yards. With five minutes remaining the
excellent Damien McGee gave Celtic the lead. In the final minute Diarmuid Higgins confirmed victory
with a sweet lob.
Best for Trim Celtic were Dillan Murrnin, Damien McGee, Diarmuid Higgins, Niall Farrell and Jamie Lee.
