Premier Division

Trim Celtic 4 – 1 Rock Celtic

Halftime: 0 – 0

Trim Celtic scorers: Shane Ashe 2, Dermot Bartley, Keith Jones

Sent off: Noel Payne

In a first half that was scoreless Trim Celtic made most of the
running with Noel Payne and Paul Bartley both having opportunities to score.
Payne and a Rock player were then red carded for a minor scuffle where
yellow cards would have been punishment enough.

In the second half Trim again had chances to score through David Conway who
failed to convert David Fagan’s long pass. The deadlock was broken soon
after when Dermot Bartley headed Paul Campbell’s corner home. Celtic doubled
their lead when Shane Ashe pounced on a defensive error to rifle home. Shane
then scored a superb second as he cut in from the right to blast the ball
into the top corner from the edge of the box. Dermot Bartley, David Conway
and Paul Bartley all should have extended Celtic’s lead but Rock scored a
goal on the break to give them hope. Celtic had goalkeeper Mick Martin to
thank for a fine block with Ciaran Rispin also providing superb cover as
Rock looked for a second. However substitute John Kelly’s neat back-heel
played in Keith Jones to round up the scoring. Kelly then should have got
himself on the scoresheet but failed to convert when it looked impossible to
miss.

Best for Trim Celtic were Dermot Bartley, Paul Campbell and Shane Ashe.
