Trim Celtic 4 – 0 Trim Town

Trim Celtic continued their winning run with a solid performance against local rivals Trim Town. Facing a stiff breeze in the first half Celtic defended well with Town coming close with two headers from free kicks and also a direct free kick which goalkeeper Mick Martin saved comfortably. Celtic had a great chance to score following an excellent break by David Fagan. Surging up the right wing Fagan found David Conway who beat his man but shot straight at the onrushing keeper, the resulting rebound fell to Shane Ashe who chipped the ball towards goal only for it to be touched onto the post by a Town defender. Celtic then took the lead when a good passing move resulted in Paul Bartley’s swerving shot from the edge of the box hitting the back of the net.

In the second half Celtic got off to a flying start when Keith Jones collected David Fagan’s pass, beat his man and fired low into the bottom corner to double Celtic’s lead. After this second goal Town began to put increased pressure on the Celtic defence in search of a goal that would get them back into the game. However Celtic broke on occasions with Noel Payne, Shane Ashe and Craig O’Hanlon coming close to scoring. Celtic’s third goal was scored by O’Hanlon as Shane Ashe unselfishly played him in to slot home from ten yards. Soon after the scoring was complete when Paul Campbell chipping home from the edge of the box.
