Carrick Rovers 1 – 2 Trim Celtic

Halftime: 0 – 0

Trim Celtic scorers: Paul Bartley, Noel Payne

Trim Celtic secured an excellent win with two second half headers from two of their smallest players. With the game goalless at halftime Celtic took the lead midway through the second half when Shane Ashe’s pinpoint cross was headed home from a tight angle by Paul Bartley. Within ten minutes Celtic had doubled their lead when David Conway’s cross was powerfully headed home by Noel Payne. Carrick created few chances largely due to an outstanding defensive performance, with Barry O’Cllaghan making some fine saves whenever that defence was breached. Celtic should have put the game to bed but David Conway spurned two good chances. Carriack grabbed a goal with two minutes left but Celtic were good enough in defence to hold on for the win.

Best for Trim Celtic were Dermot Bartley, Shane Ashe and Paul Bartley.
