NECSL Under 13 Shield Final

Trim Celtic 3 – 1 Kingscourt

Halftime: 0 – 1

Trim Celtic scorers: Diarmuid Higgins 2, Damien McGee

Trim Celtic secured success in the Shield final with a well deserved victory over Kingscourt in a pulsating contest. Trim went into the final as underdogs having previously been defeated by the Cavan side and in the first half were nervous and tentative as Kingscourt set the pace. Kingscourt hit the bar after fifteen minutes and Dillan Murrnin

had to be alert in goal to keep them at bay. Just on halftime when it looked as though Celtic had

weathered the Kingscourt storm a free kick into the Celtic box was finished from close range and

Kingscourt took the lead.

The second half saw a transformation in Trim Celtic, pushed on by Jamie Lee and Damien McGee in

midfield they took the game to Kingscourt. After pressure from Darren Melia and Sean Foley a chance was

created for Diarmuid Higgins which he tucked away from ten yards. With five minutes remaining the

excellent Damien McGee gave Celtic the lead. In the final minute Diarmuid Higgins confirmed victory

with a sweet lob.

Best for Trim Celtic were Dillan Murrnin, Damien McGee, Diarmuid Higgins, Niall Farrell and Jamie Lee.

NECSL Under 13 Sheild Semi-Final

Kells 1 – 2 Trim Celtic A.E.T.

Trim Celtic qualified for the Shield Final with a hard fought victory over Kells Boys. On a rock hard pitch that was devoid of grass this was as game that was as much about character as footballing ability and Trim Celtic had it in abundance. Celtic started slowly but Diarmuid Higgins put Celtic ahead with a goal from close range. However Kells battled back to equalise before halftime. The second half was a very tight affair with Colm Smith coming close, however the lack of goals brough the game to extra-time. Diarmuid Higgins again proved the match winner with another close range effort for a fully deeserved win.

Danone Nations Cup

Trim Celtic 2 – 0 Glenmuir Utd

Trim Celtic scorers: Sean Fitzgerald, Fionn Nally

Trim Celtic 1 – 0 Raheny Utd

Trim Celtic scorer: Sam Millen

Trim Celtic U-11s advanced to the All-Ireland stages of the Danone Nations Cup after deservedly beating the strongest teams from the North Dublin, Dundalk and Drogheda Schoolboys leagues. In a round robin competition between Trim Celtic (representing the NECSL), Raheny Utd., Glenmuir Utd. and Albion Rovers, Trim played the best football of the day and had won the competition after winning their first two games. In the first game against Glenmuir Utd., Trim went ahead with a very well taken goal by Sean Fitzgerald after being set up by Ciarán Fitzsimons. Trim continued to play the ball around and added to their lead in the second half after a great move down right resulted in a cross across goal where Fionn Nally was there to slot home. In the second game against Raheny Utd, the game was tight and was tied 0-0 at half time. In the 2nd half Trim again dominated and after five minutes, Sam Millen was put through on goal and beat three defenders for a superb individual goal that turned out to be the winner. After the other teams had drawn, it meant that Trim on 6 points
could not be caught. In the final game against Albion Rovers, Trim fielded a number of substitutes and took some time to adjust to the game. Trim were beaten by Albion but at that stage it was immaterial. Trim will be representing the NE region of the country in the all-Ireland stages in June.

Trim Celtic squad: James Mitchell, Shane O’Connor, Ciaran Fitzsimons, Joan Lehmann, James Toher, Sean McGee, Fionn Nally, Sam Millen, Ciaran Halpin, Sean Fitzgerald, Joey Corrigan, Paul Melia, Evan Dixon, Gareth White, Darren O’Neill.

Pre Season – Trim Celtic 3 – 3 Real Glasnaoin

Trim Celtic 3 – 3 Real Glasnaoin

In the first friendly of the new season Trim Celtic met United Churches League Division 2 side Real Glasnaoin. Celtic gave a debut to Peter Kane who has previous experience with Erris Utd in May and Leixlip in Kildare. Celtic started brightly and within fifteen minutes were two goals to the good. The first goal was tapped in by David Conway after Noel Payne chased a long ball into the corner and cleverly hooked the ball into the box as the defender was trying to shield the ball out of play. Within minutes the lead was doubled when David Conway headed home Dominic Martin’s cross after a succession of corners. The visitors proved they had not just come for the day out when they began to come forward with intent. A free kick on the edge of the box provided the platform for the Dubliners to reduce the deficit. Barry O’Callaghan superbly saved the initial free kick but was powerless when an onrushing Real player tapped home his parry. O’Callaghan quickly got an assist as his long kick out bounced over the visiting defence allowing Shane Ashe a clear run at goal where he finished at the second attempt rounding up the scoring in the first half.

In the second half Celtic didn’t create as many chances as in the first and had to settle for long range efforts with Shane Ashe coming close on two occasions from the corner of the box. Real then pulled another goal back when a free kick caused confusion in the box with the result being an easy tap in for a visiting player.
Minutes later the sides were level when the ball bounced up nicely for a Glasnaoin player who volleyed over Barry O’Callaghan into the corner of the net from the edge of the box. Neither side could force a winner and the game finished level at three each.

Trim Celtic: Barry O’Callaghan, Ciaran Rispin, Mark Scanlon, Dermot Bartley, Dominic Martin, Keith Jones, Peter Kane, Paul Campbell, David Conway, Noel Payne, Shane Ashe.

Subs: Damien Dempsey (for Mark Scanlon), David Campbell (for Dermot Bartley).
